painted stones {palette of the week}

Bright colours and natural surfaces – they often appear together in my design dreams. I love this palette of earthy neutrals and vibrant colours created by Rachael Smith and her DIY Painted Stones. Everything is better with a pop of copper, don’t you think?

balloons & markets {palette of the week}

I saw these two photographs by Rachel Jones of Black Eiffel on Instagram and instantly become enamoured with their beautiful colour palettes. While the photos were taken a couple of weeks apart and showcase very different subject matter, they feel so united in shape, tone and vivacious colours on dark backgrounds. Who knew balloons in a pool and farmer’s markets made such dreamy mixtures of hue…

metallic jewel tones {palette of the week}

I came across this image crafted by photographer Daniel Lindh and art director Chang Lin and fell in love with the modern styling and palette. Has nail polish ever looked better? I just want to dive into those pools of sultry metallic jewel tones…

cornflower blue & brass {palette of the week}

I’m a longtime admirer of these chic Brass Paperweights by Daniel Emma. And this photograph by Rodrick Bond is simply beautiful. The cornflower blue wall reflects onto the metallic brass surfaces, creating a lovely new palette of blues and greens…

crane colours {palette of the week}

I spotted this photograph of origami cranes on Emma Dime this weekend and fell in love with the luscious colour palette and dreamy lighting. A perfect mix of tropical summer hues sprinkled with folded paper shadows…

neon threads {palette of the week}

The neon trend doesn’t seem to be going anywhere and I am excited to see some diversity in the hues explored. Often, the term “neon” is focused on four or five colours but there is actually a wide spectrum to consider within the vibrant hue family. I love this old neon thread card on the design center at philadelphia university blog as it highlights just how many directions one colour (like “neon pink”) can go in…

unexpected valentine hues {palette of the week}

I love when unique colours pop up amid the expected holiday palettes. St. Valentine’s Day is awash in red and pink so these beautiful origami hearts by Melanie Blodgett and their spectrum of retro colours really tickle my fancy. Perhaps a new holiday palette has been born?

sarees and stone {palette of the week}

I love this photograph of vibrant sarees scattered across the stairs of the Ahilya temple in Maheshwar, India. Captured by photographer Eli Shams, the contrast of old stonework and drops of rich colour create one smashing palette…

elegant fruit hues {palette of the week}

The hues attributed to fruit photography often focus on juicy primary colours. Captured by Jojo Filer-Cooper, this beautiful photograph caught my eye because it is a unique showcase of the elegant colours and textures of fruit (all against an ocean turquoise backdrop). Not your average fruit bowl…

j.crew fabric swatches {palette of the week}

Sometimes, it seems the many options that brands have for displaying colourways are sort of neglected. That’s why I’m always thrilled when colours are not only displayed but showcased in design-focused and 3D ways. J.Crew is tops in that department. I love how they cut squares from actual fabrics, pop in real pins and snap a photo (allowing one to see texture and hue). I made the above mashup of their Spring 2013 and Holiday 2012 wedding hues. So many fabulous palettes for fashion, home and design (and some great colour names too)…

a weathered gradient {palette of the week}

I spotted this DIY project on Country Living for creating a wall of shutters and was struck by the palette. A unique gradient of weathered colour including dashes of dusty grey and soft tints of acid yellow and robin’s egg blue. Ah, how colour and texture combine…

chic & saturated {palette of the week}

Construction, renovation, DIY projects – I love all elements of building and home design. One of the best parts? Colour swatches of course! I came across some sample pages from Sydney Harbour’s 2012 Interior Exterior Fan Deck and fell in love with the well-curated, saturated hues. They prove that colour (beyond expected neutrals) can be chic, sophisticated AND vibrant…
