out of sight

An intriguing piece of street art in Salzburg by artist MeerSAU. Not comment yet from the artist on the meaning behind the piece (especially the last image) but the wrinkled garbage bag and whimsy of real balloons is a beautiful and thought-provoking visual.

I think it’s a statement about how we think about waste/garbage. We generate a lot of garbage on this planet with no thought to where it goes. I’m just as guilty-every meal I make my family generates 5-10 pieces of packaging, but i’m working on less packaged food and buying/cooking foods in the raw. It’s hard to generate NO garbage, but reduction is a start, and it is better than thinking it just floats away with no consequences.

thanks for the comments guys. It is a great example of street art.

Christine, great insight and thoughts. I too immediately felt the piece was about the garbage we all generate. After looking at it further, I started to wonder if it was about corporate waste/chemicals as it seems to be on the side of office buildings and the gas mask clad person feels symbolic. Regardless, it is certainly a commentary on ignorant waste in general. I join your mission of less packaging and more raw foods! I have been frequenting farmers markets and it is amazing the difference it makes. With smart purchasing, diligent recycling and composting, it is amazing how little garage you end up with.

Beautiful stuff! The colours really give a different vibe compared to the other street art I’ve found.
Good shout on the corporate waste etc, but I reckon it’s a much more simple concept than that. To me, it’s simply letting the rubbish in your life fly away; letting the bad things go. Just as it’s named, out of sight, out of mind. :]

I love that thought Pete. I have go back and forth myself between feeling it is about corporate waste and feeling it is about personal baggage. I imagine it can mean both! I like how you worded :)
