introducing… {in black & white}

So I kind of cheated last week and posted The Black Book of Colours in this category. Well, consider this a formal introduction to the {in black & white} special feature! Many debate and many outright declare that black and white are not colours but rather, a shade and tint who only function to darken and lighten hues. That is just far too technical and clinical for my taste. I absolutely love the graphic strength of black and white especially when they are used in combination with bright punches of colour. Long story short? Black and white are full-fledged colours in these neck of the woods and are most deserving of a special feature devoted to their unrivalled style, power and possibilities. More to come in black and white!

Black is the lack of all colored light: black absorbs instead of reflecting the light frequencies that we can perceive. White is the combination of all colors and can be seen separated out into the full color spectrum by doing that prism experiment we learned in first grade. Objects we perceive as white are created out of very fine transparent highly reflective particles or fibers. So…white could technically be called a color because it is all colors, black not so much: it’s more like a color/light sponge…

That wasn’t actually supposed to come off as snobby, just informative. I’m glad you’re adding a black and white section and I’m glad I found your site : )

I’m glad you visited! While I know the scientific facts of colour, I still choose to showcase black and white as colours as they are generally regarded as such. There is so much to love about black and white that I feel they need special recognition on this particular colour site… Facts be damned! ;)
